St. Johnsbury, Vermont
Dog lovers from all over the world come to visit Dog Mountain to pay homage to their furry friends. Inside the Dog Chapel people post personal dog photos, handwritten stories, and tales of love lost. It's a chance to process grief, feel an overwhelming sense of collective community, and find a little peace.
The Chapel stands on the 150 acre property in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where people can connect with nature and their dogs.
Artist Stephen Huneck and his wife, Gwen, bought the property in 1995, turned the barn into studio space, and opened Dog Chapel and their land for the public to visit. It is now run as a non-profit dog park and art gallery.
A weather vane on top of the cupola depicts a golden jumping dog, backdropped by blue sky and fluffy clouds.
My dog, Coco, exits the Chapel using the doggie doorway, into the blinding white daylight
